Please help with the Evergreen Centre Community Garden Project

The Community Garden Project is due to commence at the Evergreen Centre on Saturday next August 9th. We would really appreciate your input and would encourage as many volunteers as possible on the day. The project will be overseen by Esther Gerrard, Landscape Architect and cofounder of Bloom Fringe.

We aim to meet at the garden at 11am and finish by 3pm at the latest. As a starting point we need to clear the site, so please bring along spades, forks and if anyone gas a rotavator  it would be really useful. A scythe would be a great help too.

Please circulate this email as widely as possible, "many hands make light work"! This project is for the whole community to participate in and enjoy.

Tackling Graffiti in Terenure

Residents in our area have reported a recent spate of graffiti on Templeogue Road, Olney Crescent, Beechlawn Way (leading up to St Joseph's BNS), and Rathfarnham Road. Most of the graffiti are on property owned by Dublin City Council and public utilities. 

Our planning officer Jim Dowling is compiling a comprehensive list of the locations where the graffiti are to be found and will send it to DCC.  If you can help, please e-mail secretary@terenureresidentsassociation.ie, stating the address or nearest house number, the nature of the item (eg, litter bin, pole, control box etc), and the owner of the item (if known: eg, DCC, ESB, Eircom or UPC). Information should be received no later than 4th August.

Preventing graffiti

Removing graffiti is a costly use of limited resources and the money would be better spent on other services. You can read about preventing graffiti at this link to Graffiti Hurts (a US site). Tips include keeping the neighbourhood clean and tidy, removing graffiti promptly and educating young people about the implications of graffiti.

Terenure Vintage Car Show, 2014

The 23rd Irish Classic and Vintage Motor Show, Ireland’s largest classic car show, will be held on the grounds of Terenure College, Dublin, on Sunday July 6th 2014. 
Charities to be supported this year are The National Maternity Hospital Foundation and The Migraine Association of Ireland.

There will be entertainment at the centre arena throughout the day; music by Paddy Cole, Sunshine 106.8FM and Dublin South FM; and prizes will be awarded to the best cars at 4pm. Breakfast will be available in the grounds from 8am onwards and a range of food will be available during the day.

Please note that no dogs, charcoal fired barbecues or unapproved trading or commercial activities are permitted.

Public entry fees are:

• Adults – €10 
• Family – €20 
• Children & OAPs – €5

Terenure Garden Open to the Public

The Open Garden Trail 2014 (in aid of Our Lady's Hospice and Care Services) started on 24th May and will finish on 7th September. Sixteen gardens in Dublin and Wicklow are open to the public on specified dates during that time.
Terenure Residents Association is pleased to share the news that the garden at 14 Rathdown Crescent, Terenure will be open from 2.00pm to 5.00pm on Saturday 12th July.

International Singer John MacNally to perform in native Terenure

Internationally renown tenor John MacNally, originally from Fortfield Road (but now resident in Australia) will perform

an Evening of Song on

Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June at 8.00pm

in the Donal McCann Theatre, Terenure College

Plus guests St.Joseph's Boys Choir, the Carron Sisters, Jimmy Farrelly and St. Pius X Folk Group. Tickets €15 (concessions €10, family of 4 €40) are available from Terenure College reception on 01-499 7000. All proceeds in aid of the Carmelite charities.

Flash Village Clean Up – Wednesday 11th June – Calling All Volunteers

Can you spare one hour on Wednesday June 11th to weed, sweep, paint or pick up litter on behalf of your community?

In support of Terenure for the 2014 Tidy Towns Competition, the Clean Up Green Up group are holding a village cleanup.

Free Electrical Recycling in Terenure, Saturday 31 May

The WEEE Ireland free electrical recycling will be available at Terenure car park tomorrow, Saturday, from 10am - 4pm. Any household item with a plug or battery will be accepted.
