Increasing local demand for primary school places in Terenure and the surrounding area is already forcing some parents to look further afield for schooling for their children, particularly if you're looking for a non-religious ethos school. And the situation is getting worse each year. In years past for example, St. Joseph's Boys National School used to have several places available for local non-Catholic boys and those living outside of the parish, for September 2015 they will struggle to accommodate all Catholic 4/5 year old boys living in the parish who have applied to enter Junior Infants.
A group of local parents are campaigning to remedy this situation and are lobbying for an Educate Together National School in the Terenure/Dublin 6 area. They have secured a meeting with the Minister of Education later this month and are keen to get in touch with parents of young children who will be looking to start school in the next few years, and others concerned about the situation.
