Trees Adjacent to Templeogue Road, Rathdown Drive and Rathdown Crescent to be Removed

Dublin City Council recently carried out an inspection and evaluation of the trees on the green space adjacent to Templeogue Road, Rathdown Drive and Rathdown Crescent. Several trees were found to be unsafe,  diseased or unhealthy. In the interests of public safety, the Council will remove the following trees:
the lime tree opposite 41-42 Rathdown Drive due to fungal growth at its base,
the ash tree opposite 9 Rathdown Drive,
the sycamore tree opposite 1 Rathdown Drive due to base damage and ring damage and
the sycamore tree at the traffic lights which is in poor condition.

The following trees will be pruned:

the lime tree opposite 45 Rathdown Drive,
the horse chestnut tree near 13 Rathdown Drive,
the oak trees opposite 3-4 and 11 Rathdown Drive,
a sycamore tree at the roundabout,
two oak trees beyond the roundabout at Rathdown Crescent and
four large trees near the roadway within Bushy Park itself.

This work will be carried out within the next few weeks. The Council will plant at least four new trees this coming winter to replace those that will be removed.

Extended Opening Hours Granted to Discount Store

The Executive Manager of Dublin City Council (Planning and Registry Decisions, Planning Department) has granted permission to Lidl (Plan No. 2311/13) to extend its opening hours at the Terenure site from 81 to 86.5 hours per week, "in the interest of the proper planning and sustainable development of the area." The development "shall be managed so as to avoid potential conflict between shoppers and drop off/collection associated with [St Joseph's BNS]."

Bord Pleanala had previously restricted the hours of operation to "0800 hours and 1900 hours from Saturday to Wednesday, and between 0800 hours and 2100 hours on Thursday and Friday" in order "to protect the residential amenities of the area" (Bord Pleanala Case reference: PL29S.240744).

The closing date for appeals to Bord Pleanala is Wednesday 28th May 2013.
