Safer Community Week - 22 - 29 September

As part of Safer Community week next week, An Garda Síochána have published the following top 5 burglary prevention tips:

  1. Secure all Doors and Windows
  2. Light up your Home, use timer switches when out
  3. Store Keys safely and away from windows & letterboxes
  4. Record details of Valuables and don’t keep large Cash amounts at home
  5. Use your Alarm, even when at home

Culture Night in Terenure (this Friday)

This Friday (19 September) is national Culture Night, and Terenure is celebrating with

Going Wild in Terenure

St Joseph's Church, 8pm

with Eanna Ni Lamhna and Peter McBride

The well known author and broadcaster Eanna Ni Lamhna will present an illustrated talk describing the flora and fauna to be seen in Terenure and its environs, with a  performance of Saint-Saens' "The Carnival of Animals" by the local organist Peter McBride.

Admission free.

The First World War and Terenure

The War Memorial Hall on Rathfarnham Road, Terenure was erected in the early 1920s on land given by Col. Sir Frederick Shaw of Bushy Park House. He and his family gave a wooden cross in memory of "the soldiers of all ranks and denominations from the district of Terenure and Rathfarnham". The Vestry Committee of Rathfarnham Parish (CoI) Church is interested in finding out more about the ninety-seven men whose names are listed on the dedication board in the hall. 

In a separate but related project Terenure Residents' Association has also taken some preliminary steps to discover what links Terenure had to the Great War.
